What it takes to run

Editor/app + model connection

  • Install the editor extension or desktop app, open a workspace and configure a model provider.
  • CLI installation requires Node.js 20 or later according to the current install guide.
  • For local models, run a supported local server and select a model that fits available memory.

The real tradeoffs

Cost & licensing

Running costs

Open-source agent code; use provider-billed API access, Cline usage credits, a ClinePass subscription or local inference.

Model access is not automatically free. Promotions and quotas change; local models require suitable hardware. No exact plan price is asserted here.

Code license

Apache-2.0

Read the code license

Models & other terms

The agent's code license does not cover chosen model weights or provider access.

Commercial model access and enterprise services are separate from the repository's Apache-2.0 license.

Know the limitations

  • Broad auto-approval and YOLO mode can allow destructive commands and access outside the workspace.
  • Model quality, context size and repeated tool calls affect results and cost.
  • Desktop Windows support is marked beta; review and test generated changes.
